How a correction is recorded

Each correction is recorded twice on the same day: once at the foot of the article, and once on this page. The note at the foot of an article takes this form:

YYYY-MM-DD — [what was corrected] (originally: "[the wrong text]").

An entry on this page uses the same form, adds a link to the article, and is listed under Entries above.

  • A mathematical error is not fixed in the text alone. The calculation, search or proof behind the claim is checked again, and every diagram that depends on it is redrawn from the corrected rule.
  • The same claim is corrected everywhere it appears, on the same day: the short answer at the top of the article, its card and page descriptions, answers in a question section, tables, CSV files and their notes, and other pages that repeat it.
  • The revision date in the article's Cite this page block moves to the date of the correction, so anyone who cited the page can see that it changed. Nothing is changed silently.
  • The original wording stays in the note, so you can see exactly what was wrong.
